Indian Army Rank Wise Salary and Allowances (7th Pay Commission)
The Indian Army provides rank-wise salaries and allowances based on the 7th Pay Commission. A soldier’s salary depends on their rank, years of service, and additional allowances based on their posting.
To track salary details, the Hamraaz Portal has been introduced, allowing officers to check their pay slips, benefits, and other financial details online.
Indian Army Rank Wise Salary (Basic Pay & Pay Scale)
Currently, the basic pay in the Indian Army starts from ₹21,700 and goes up to ₹2,50,000. The pay scale (grade pay) is classified from Pay Level-3 to Pay Level-18.

Important Note: Even if a soldier does not get promoted, their salary increases over time based on years of service.
Major Allowances in Indian Army
Apart from basic pay, Indian Army personnel receive multiple allowances depending on posting location, risk factor, and nature of duty.
- Dearness Allowance (DA) – महंगाई भत्ता: 42% of Basic Pay (subject to revision by the government).
- House Rent Allowance (HRA) – आवास भत्ता: If government accommodation is not provided, HRA is given based on city category:
- X-Class Cities (Metro) – 24% of Basic Pay
- Y-Class Cities (Medium-Sized) – 16% of Basic Pay
- Z-Class Cities (Small Towns) – 8% of Basic Pay
- Transport Allowance (TA) – परिवहन भत्ता: For X-Class Cities: ₹3,600 + DA and for Y & Z-Class Cities: ₹1,800 + DA
- Siachen Allowance – सियाचिन भत्ता: ₹42,500 per month for soldiers posted in Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battlefield.
- Field Area Allowance – क्षेत्रीय भत्ता: Based on the difficulty level of the posting area like for Normal Field Area – ₹10,500/month and for Difficult Field Area – ₹21,000/month.
- High Altitude Allowance – हाई ऑल्टीट्यूड भत्ता: Given to soldiers posted in high-altitude regions (₹1,060 – ₹16,900/month).
- Dress Allowance – ड्रेस भत्ता: ₹20,000 per year for uniform and maintenance expenses.
- Educational Allowance – शिक्षा भत्ता: ₹2,250 per month per child (for up to 2 children).

Go to Hamraaz Web Portal: hamraazmp8.gov.in
Login using your Army credentials.
Click on “Pay Slip” to download your latest salary statement.
